Fintown Harps 1 Kilmacrennan Celtic 2
In cold conditions at the comp field in Glenties its Kilmacrennan that head away with three points after a hard fought game. Both teams were quick and eager to get the first goal but it was Fintown that were first out of the blocks when they received a penalty after 15 minutes when John “broc” was taken down in the box. Anthony W stepped up to the mark and struck it very well putting Fintown one up. P Mc Fadden then had a great cross in to find the head of Anthony who nearly lobbed the keeper. Kilmacrennan received a corner kick shortly after but were unlucky to score.
Second half was much the same but Fintown were unlucky to give away a penalty on the 20th minute, C. Gallagher stepping up to take it and struck it into the right corner of the net to make it all level in Glenties. With both teams pushing hard to get a goal it was Kilmacrennan that got the breakthrough on the 30th minute with a goal from C. Bonner. Fintown put serious pressure on the Kilmacrennan defence but just couldn’t find the net.

Gweedore United 1 Dunfanaghy Town 0
In an action packed clash of the top two teams in the Willie Duffy Division 1 the home side beat Dunfanaghy Town 1-0 to go three points clear at the top of the table. Dunfanaghy had the upper hand in the first half with good chances by James Mullen who fired wide in the 20th minute. In the 30th minute Dunfanaghy were denied a goal by the United keeper Alan Keller who made a good save from Barney Mc Ginley’s header which was going into the top corner of the United net. United’s defence soaked up the all the pressure and dealt well with everything that Dunfanaghy threw at them in the first half.
In the second half the home side made a few changes and started well. In the 63rd minute United took the lead when Patrick Mc Gee’s free kick was flicked on by Edward Muldowney to Cathal Mulligan who rifled home from 20 yards into the top corner of the net. In the 70th minute Cathal Mulligan was taken down in the box and Patrick Mc Gee’s resulting penalty was saved by the Dunfanaghy keeper Liam Mc Mullen. In the 75th minute Dunfanaghy had a chance to level the score from the penalty spot but Alan Keller denied them again and Keller also produced an excellent save following a goal mouth scramble on 80 minutes to keep a clean sheet in this tight match.

A last gasp injury time equaliser from Dermot Shiels was enough to earn Lifford a point in this top of the table clash. The home side started with a quick tempo and dominated the early midfield exchanges. Damian Patton had the best of the early chances when he saw his close range effort deflected over. Kilmac came back into it and Philip Buchanan and Eddie Doherty both saw headers go just over the bar. At the other end keeper Liam Mc Bride had to react sharply to tip over a Kevin Mc Brearty free kick. The second half was as tense as the first with both sides going close to breaking the deadlock. Mark Carlin won a penalty on 56 minutes when he was upended in the box, he took the spot kick himself but failed to covert when his shot blazed over the bar. The league champions took full advantage of the let off when sub Timmy Burke crossed for Eddie Doherty to head home. Philip Buchanan almost put the game beyond doubt when he rounded Paul Given only to see his
shot cleared off the line by John Doherty. The home side pushed everybody forward and their persistence paid off with the last kick of the game when a free kick wasn’t cleared and Shiels popped up to stab the ball in and ensure the spoils were shared. Gweedore United 3 Dunlewey Celtic 2
The home side collected all 3 points in this local derby played in good conditions at Carrickboyle thanks to a late goal by Michael Connolly. United started the game well and saw most of the possession in the first half with Ciaran Mc Fadden and Darren Ferry coming close on a number of occasions. On 35 minutes United went one up when a good ball from Frank Mc Gee fell to Padraig Mc Fadden who crossed to Darren Ferry and Ferry headed to the back of the net from close range. Three minutes later Dunlewey got back on level terms when a well delivered corner from Daniel Cannon was deflected into his own net by Frank Mc Gee. The home side responded well following that goal and on 41 minutes took the lead once again when Padraig Mc Fadden took on two defenders and passed to Ciaran Mc Fadden who drove past Mc Cafferty in the Dunlewey net from 10 yards to make the score 2-1 which remained the score until the interval. In the second half Dunlewey came off the blocks quickest and saw most of the possession and had some good chances from Tommy Rodgers and Shaun Mc Cafferty. Dunlewey got their well deserved equaliser on 62 minutes when a goal mouth scramble was tapped home by Tommy Rodgers following a good move by Daniel Cannon. The visitors continued to put the United defence under pressure and Liam Mc Fadden in the United nets did well on a number of occasions. However in the 88th minute United’s substitute Michael Connolly found himself through one on one with Mc Cafferty in the Dunlewey net and Connolly made no mistake slotting the ball into the bottom left corner ensuring all 3 points for the home side. Daniel Cannon played well for Dunlewey with Padraig Mc Fadden impressing for United.

Deele opened the scoring on 5 minutes. A move involving Gavin Gallagher playing a through ball to Paul Lynch who finished low and hard across goal into the bottom right hand corner.
In the 9th minute a shot from Gavin Gallagher and a missed judgement from the Cappry goalkeeper left forward Shane Gallagher the simple task of finishing into the empty net.
On 15 minutes Gavin Gallagher dispossessed the central defender and lobbed the goalkeeper from the edge of the box.
In the 30th minute a nice move involving Gary McGirr and Shane Gallagher and Kenny Melaugh resulting in Melaugh finishing in a nicely placed header.
Cappry started the second half well, Darren O Leary finished well from a corner in the 47th minute. In the 55th minute a goalmouth scramble in the Deele Box left Dylan Ramsey the simple task of putting the ball into a empty net.
In the 65th minute, Cappry were awarded a free kick about 30 yards out which Darren O Leary converted well. On 80 minutes a through ball from Seamie Gallagher to Shane Gallagher who shot past the keeper from the edge of the box.

St Catherine’s 2 Castlefin Celtic 4
Castlefinn opened the scoring with just two minutes gone when Emmet White converted a penalty. The Saints pressed hard for the equaliser and Gerry Mc Cabe got it on twenty five minutes with a half volley over the keeper. St Catherines dominated the game from then on and five minutes later Gavin Boyle got the Saints second when he beat the offside and finished well. The Saints went in at half time the happier of the two sides.
The second half saw Castlefinn take the game to St.Catherines and levelled the score on seventy five minutes when Mark Laffertys shot hit the net. Emmet White scored his second on eighty five minutes when he chipped the Saints keeper. Kevin White scored Castlefin’s forth on eighty six minutes when he tapped in from a rebound off the post.

Copany Rovers 2 Bonagee United 4
Bonagee gained another 3 points and this week Copany Rovers were the victims. Bonagee opened the scoring inside the first minute when Karl Duggan headed home from a long throw into the Copany box. Copany lifted their game after the early wake up call and were back on level terms after 14 minutes when Paul Clarke neatly finished a great build up involving Aaron Scott and David Graham. Copany continued to create chances but with no end product fast becoming the story of Copany’s season so far, and they were punished on 45 minutes for not taking their chances when Oisin Kelly slotted home to give the visitors a one goal lead at half time. Bonagee made it 3-1 on the 50th minute when the unmarked Karl Duggan headed home from a free kick. Bonagee were well in control now but were hit on the break on the 65th minute when Shane Walsh ran down the left and fired in at the near post, but their joy was short lived when Mark Hunter scored from 25 yards and Bonagee saw out the game for a 4-2 victory to continue their recent good run of results. Kerrykeel 71 2 Raphoe Town 2
Raphoe Town were the visitors to Rab’s Park, Kerrykeel for this top of the table clash and nothing separated both teams in what was a great game of football. Kerrykeel were in front as early as the first minute when Shaun Friel converted well from a Sean Callaghan corner. Raphoe equalised straight after when Peter Brolly fired an unstoppable shot right in the top corner giving Shane Sandilands no chance in the Kerrykeel goal. Raphoe gained confidence from this and went in front on the fifth minute when Gerard Mc Laughlin intercepted a slack back pass and coolly slotted home from six yards. Kerrykeel had their chances to level with both James Martin and Niall Doherty going close, however Paul Carberry was having a fine game for the away side. The equaliser did come on the thirty-fifth minute with Niall Doherty heading home from a Kevin Loughrey corner.
The second half was evenly contested with both teams keeping things tight at the back. Kerrykeel should have gone in front on the sixty-fifth minute. Tommy Mc Bride played a great through ball to Kevin Loughrey but his shot was denied by the Raphoe keeper. It deflected to Shaun Friel but his effort clipped the post to go wide. It was Raphoe’s chance to take three points on the eight-fifth minute but Shane Sandi lands saved brilliantly from a Peter Brolly drive to tip the ball over the crossbar. In the dying seconds of the game Kerry keel had another great chance when Sean Callaghan paraded down the left side to find Shane Friel but the Raphoe keeper pulled off another fine save. A draw was a fair result for both teams in an entertaining game of football.

Cranford United 4 Letterbarrow Celtic 0
Cranford United took on Letterbarrow Celtic in Cranfords home ground. Cranford took the lead early on from a Seamus Carr cross back healed to the goals by Chris Carr. Cranford kept the pressure on and missed many good chances and the score remained 1-0 at half time. The second half started well for Cranford when they took the score to two nil with James McBride heading home from a corner. Shortly after that Shay Coyle fired home making it 3-0. Cranford wrapped it up after a great run from Danny McBride who beat four men and crossing for Tom Logue to score. Team effort for Letterbarrow and best for Cranford Kerion Louge and Danny McBride. FAI Junior Cup Round 3

In a very entertaining first half Glencar took the play to Lagan but failed to capitalise on some fine passing play. On the 35th minute Ronan Gibson latched onto a cross from the right to put Lagan ahead against the run of play. Glencar lost their way slightly in the second half despite hitting the wood work. On the 65th minute O’Donnell struck a free kick which beat the keeper from thirty yards. Huffing and puffing Glencar could not convert their hard work into goals. On the 85th minute Kevin Kelly missed a penalty which would have caped of a fine performance. Best for Glencar was Garvin Greeves, Mickey Martin and Paddy O’Kane. Best for Lagan was Ronan Gibson.

Keadue Rovers 4 Aileach FC 1
Keadue Rovers progressed to the fourth round of the cup after this convincing victory over Aileach. The game started at a good pace and there was a chance for each team in the first ten minutes, Colin McCarron going close for Keadue and Aileach had a long range effort just wide shortly afterwards. Aileach took the lead on ten minutes when Ciaran Craig nipped in with a close range finish at the near post. By the half way point of the first half the home side were well on top in possession and it was no surprise when the leveller came, after Corey Gallaghers through ball Colin McCarron evaded the keeper and finished low to the net. The game remained scrappy up until half time with neither side creating anything in the way of chances, while conditions were difficult in a strong breeze and a patchy pitch. Aileach had a good first few minutes of the second half and Keadue keeper Lee Boyle made a fine stop from Aileachs centre forward on forty nine minutes. However the home side started to get much the better of things from then on, with Adrian Hanlon proving to be the focal point of all Keadues good play, having both a shot well saved and hitting a fine free kick against the post. Keadue took the lead on the hour when Adrian Hanlon lobbed the ball over the keeper from outside the box. The home side continued to dominate and by the seventy third minute were 3-1 up. Full back Benny McGarvey dispossessed the Aileach defender and curled a great effort into the top corner. Keadue completed the scoring on seventy nine minutes when Adrian Hanlon dispossessed the defender and slotted under the keeper from twelve yards. Aileach, to their credit kept playing football and managed to steady things in the last ten minutes. A comprehensive victory for Keadue for whom Corey Gallager, Benny McGarvey and Adrian Hanlon in particular were impressive while best for Aileach were Declan O’Donnell and Anthony Doherty.

Drumoghill 2 Glenea United 0
This was an eagerly awaited cup tie between two Premier Division rivals that
promised much and the ensuing battle disappointed none of the large crowd
that was in attendance. A place in the 4th round of the FAI Junior cup was
at stake and Glenea United, who only lost out on Premier Division title on
the final day of last season, arrived as slight favourites. The visitors had
arrived with only two previous defeats all season, but one of those defeats
came at the hands of Drumoghill and it was Drumoghill that repeated the
trick with this 2-0 victory.
First half strikes from Carlos Rogers and Michael Lynch were ultimately the
difference between the sides but it was the performance of Drumoghill
striker Liam O’Donnell that separated the teams on the day.
He didn’t get his name on the scoresheet for once but was a constant
thorn in the side of the Glenea United defence. Top scorer in last
season’s Premier Division, the 23 year old was disappointed to have been
omitted from the starting line-up in both of the recent Oscar Traynor
fixtures and was determined to use this stage to remind everyone of his
ability. He didn’t disappoint and was superb throughout the 90 minutes.
Twice in the first 7 minutes he had tested Joe Coll with strikes from
distance before using his pace to evade the attention of Paul Sweeney to
create an opening for Richard Tinney who drove over from 25 yards.
The breakthrough arrived on 14 minutes after O’Donnell had found James
Anthony O’Donnell, who tried his luck from distance. Coll made a flying save
to his left, but in doing so could only steer the ball into the direction of
Carlos Rodgers, who found the net from the tightest of angles.
Drumoghill almost doubled their lead within minutes. James Anthony O’Donnell
found space in midfield and his incisive pass sent Liam O’Donnell clear on
the right wing. O’Donnell saw that Richard Tinney was arriving at the back
post and decided to cross first time but an amazing goal line clearance from
Kevin McFadden prevented the second goal when it looked as if Tinney was
about to head home.
Gradually the visitors forced their way into the game and it was Philip
Sweeney that was their driving force. Sweeney is an excellent footballer and
on the occasions that he was afforded time and space, he made it count. He
created good openings in quick succession for Paul Doohan and Michael Barry,
but both players were narrowly off target.
There’s no better time to score in football than just before half time and
this was the exact moment that Drumoghill doubled their lead. Again, it was
Liam O’Donnell that was the architect. Drumoghill were defending at the
time, but managed to clear the ball to safety in the direction of O’Donnell.
He had no right to gain possession but managed to nick the ball on the half
way line away from the attention of Kevin McFadden to send him clear on the
left wing. O’Donnell had to bide his time until support arrived and he
intelligently picked out the onrushing Michael Lynch who curled the ball
majestically into the top corner of the net. Joe Coll managed to get a hand
on the ball and can consider himself unlucky not to have kept it out.
Glenea United had no option but to surge forward in the second half in
search of the goal that would get them back into the game and Drumoghill had
to deploy a more defensive formation in the second half to ensure the
scoreline remained the same. Sweeney was now involved in everything and was
always a danger. He almost reduced arrears when his dipping effort from 25
yards had to be tipped over by Mc Monagle before setting up Dean Gallagher whose
goalbound effort was cleared to safety by Lynch.
Although dominant, Glenea United struggled to break down the Drumoghill
defence, where Colin Watson looked particularly solid as the home side held
out for victory.
For Glenea United, their attention now turns to domestic matters and will
again be one of the teams to beat for all others in the Premier Division.
Gweedore Celtic 0 Dunkineely Celtic 0
Gweedore Celtic could only manage a draw against Dunkineely Celtic in a hard fought match in An Screaban . With the aid of a strong wind from the south west the home team did all the pressing in the first forty minutes. Colin Ferry back for the first time this season after injury had three great affords saved by keeper John Mc Mullen The same keeper was Dunlineely’s hero on four other occasions in the first period. In the second half the away team came more into the game and used their wingers to great effect .Jason Armstrong and Shane Mc Whinney were causing a lot of problems however they were unable to get the winning goal.
Cornie Gallagher for Gweedore had a great chance on the last minute but his header went narrowly wide.
