Plans for EU-wide clampdown on child abuse

Paedophiles from Europe who abuse children outside the EU could face prosecution on their return home, under new legislation being debated in Brussels.

The European Commission has drawn up a raft of measures to increase the severity of punishment meted out to child sex abusers, in a bid to update existing laws in place since 2004.

Approval for new Carrigans school

The Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills, Mary Coughlan T.D., has today announced that a brand new school has been approved to facilitate a change of location for Monreagh National School in Carrigans.
Under the grant sanctioned by her Department, a new two new classroom school as well as ancillary external facilities will be developed for the pupils and teachers of Monreagh. The new school will be constructed on a green field site provided by Church authorities.

Moville came from a goal behind to sink Enniscorthy’s hopes of a place in an All Ireland Final when the Donegal School scored a brace of goals in the second half which saw off Colaiste Bride  in Kingspan Century Park.
 
This will be Moville’s second appearance in an All Ireland Final in a matter of weeks as they lost out to St Mary’s SS, Convent of Mercy Ballina in the Junior Girls Final last month but Manager Noreen Meehan is determined to do one better this time around.

Get Up-To-The-Second Arrival and Departure Times

Bus Éireann has launched a new website – www.whensmybus.ie – to promote its real-time information system, which enables customers in Donegal to know exactly when buses will arrive and depart at stops across the county via the Web or text.
 
The new site allows customers to get up-to-the-second information on arrival and departure times of services across the country through an on-line display board. Read more

Irish Fuel Prices Still Rising

The AA fuel watch shows a sharp increase in fuel prices

Petrol prices soared again in the last month according to the latest fuel price survey from the AA. Prices continue on the steady curve towards peak prices of 2008. Petrol has risen 7% since the start of the year.

 A litre of petrol now averages at 131.8c, up 4.1c in the last month and up 9.4c since January.  Diesel has risen conjunctively to 122.0c per litre, a 3.2 cent increase in the last month and up a total of 7 cent per litre since January.
