Irish TV documentary wins top Chicago film festival award

An RTÉ television documentary, which tells the story of two Irish women and an American medical missionary priest who have spent the last fifteen years battling poverty, disease and hunger in Haiti, has won a top award at the 46th Chicago International Film Festival.

A Hundred Dead People in My Truck received a Gold Plaque for best Social/Political Documentary at the 2010 Hugo Television Awards in Chicago on Thursday last. Read more

IT Sligo win All-Ireland HE junior final

 

Congratulations to the IT Sligo GAA men’s Junior Team, who won the All-Ireland HE Junior final yesterday in UCD’s grounds in Dublin for the second year in a row.

The semi-final stages had to be completed on the same day first, they played NUI Maynooth in the semi-final and won on a score line of 3-9 to 3-4 to make it to the Final. Read more

GAA pitch invasions to be outlawed

The GAA annual national Congress in County Down has backed plans to end post match pitch invasions on gaelic pitches throughout the country.

Delegates in Newcastle, heard Seán Walsh, Jarlath Burns, Danny Murphy, Bob Honohan and Ger Doyle all speak in favour of attempts to address the dangerous practice.

There was no delegates who opposed the motion.

The invasions are causing major health and safety concerns for patrons at grounds around the country and at Croke Park, in particular, Congress was told.

Donegal’s All-Ireland semi will be on TG4

The Donegal V Tipperary All Ireland Semi Final which takes place this evening Saturday 17th April @7.30pm, in Parnell Park, Dublin, will be broadcast live on TG4.
