Consolation for North West teams as Down demolish champs

Down GAA are on a high tonight

If there is any consolation in this year All Ireland GAA championship for Sligo and Donegal, it was Down’s clinical execution of football greats Kerry in Croke Park this afternoon.

Although the score said that there were just six points between the teams, an injury time penalty conversion for Kerry glossed over the fact that they simply had no answer to the Down tsunami.

The nornal defender of the Kingdom, Pat Spillane was left with a puss on his face, talking about how great this Kerry team was, as they were seeking their 10th All Ireland semi final in a row.

He might have actually tried to pay a genuine compliment to Down, who for the record have never been beaten by Kerry in a championship match.

That in itself, is an amazing statistics considering the greatness of Kerry teams down the years. Kerry will rise again but today was Down’s day and they are now in their first All Ireland semi final in 16 years.
