Oatfields redundacies a devastating blow

The announcement of redundacies at Oatfield is a "devastating blow" says Cllr

Letterkenny Sinn Fein Councillor Gerry Mc Monagle has described today’s announcement by Oatfields of 30 job redundancies at the factory as a devastating blow for the workforce.

Cllr Mc Monagle said: The Company has announced it will be looking for 30 redundancies in the workforce from the end of October.

This news could not come at a worse time for the workers at Oatfield with Christmas just around the corner and unemployment in Donegal continuing to rise there will be little or no prospects for other employment opportunities for those being made redundant. Read more

Huge demand for Dublin Cork Croker tickets

Due to the huge demand for tickets to this Sunday’s GAA Football Semi Final between Cork and Dublin in Croke Park, the front three rows of the lower tiers have now been released for purchase.

The last remaining tickets can be purchased now via www.gaa.ie, from the GAA Ticket Shop at 53A Lwr Dorset St or from Ticketmaster outlets nationwide while stocks last. Tickets for families are available.

Tickets cost €45 for adults and just €5 for ’16s or under’ for the stands. There are a handful of terrace tickets still available at €30 each.

The GAA Ticket Shop is open until 5pm today (Friday) and from 10am to 4pm tomorrow.

Garda appeal over latest serious Sligo assault

The injured man was later taken from Sligo General Hospital to Dublin

Gardai in Sligo are investigating a serious assault that occurred at a walkway connecting Stevens Street car park and Rockwood Parade last night the 19th August.
 
A 49 year male was injured and was initally taken to Sligo general hospital but has since been taken to Beaumont  Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.
 
A technical examination has been completed and the areas has reopened.

Tardelli names 25 man squad for opening qualifiers

Republic of Ireland assistant manager, Marco Tardelli, today (Friday August 20) announced a 25 man squad who will take on Armenia away (September 3 – Kick off 8pm local time) and Andorra at home (September 7- Kick off 7.45pm) in the opening Group B European Championship qualifiers.
 
Marco Tardelli said, “We go into this double header of qualifiers well prepared and confident having held a successful training camp in May and played a number of competitive and challenging friendly matches over the summer. Playing Armenia in Yerevan will be a tough test for the team but when we return to play our first competitive home game four days later, we hope to go to Aviva stadium having made a positive start to the campaign. ”

‘Lotto’ luck for Mayo

It was good news for Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo yesterday when €135,077 from the EuroMillions draw on Friday 6 August 2010 was collected by a winner from Co. Mayo.
 
The lucky woman, who wants her win to remain private, purchased her ticket in the Gem store in Bridge Street, Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo. The ticket was a €6 Quick Pick selection. The lucky winner said that she was ‘thrilled and delighted to have won this super tax-free prize’ and that she would put the money in the bank while she made her plans.

New NoWDOC Centre in Mountcharles

The HSE in Donegal has announced that a new Treatment Centre for the NoWDOC service will be opening next Tuesday, 24th August in Mountcharles.
 
From Tuesday the services currently being provided from the NoWDOC Treatment Centre on Upper Main Street in Mountcharles will transfer to the new premises which is situated next door, on the site of the previous Seamount Hotel. Read more

Sligo assault – Man hospitalised

Sligo assault - Investigations continue

A man in his 40s has been taken to hospital following a serious assault in Sligo town last night. He was later transferred to Dublin.

A garda spokesman said the man was discovered suffering from head injuries shortly after 9pm last night in the Rockwell area of the town.

He was taken to Sligo General Hospital but later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where his condition is described as stable.

Investigations are ongoing into the incident.
