Harkin Warns on EU Commission’s visit to South America

The decision of EU Trade Commissioner de Gucht to travel to Brazil and Argentina for trade talks raises a red flag for Ireland with the implicitly threat of concessions on imports of South American beef to Europe.
 

This was stated by Marian Harkin MEP today Monday, September 13th when she cautioned that the statement issued by Commissioner de Gucht announcing his plans contained language which could suggest a sell out deal on agricultural products.

Irish tops EU for charity donations to development aid

An EU poll out today shows Ireland top for numbers of people giving money from their own pockets to aid organisations helping developing countries. Sixty-one percent of Irish people say they do so, followed by Sweden at 58%.

Just ahead of next week’s UN meeting on the Millenium Development Goals, today’s results from the Eurobarometer service also show that 95% Irish people think it is important to help people in developing countries. Other countries where support is high include Denmark, Sweden, Finland and the UK. Read more

Celebrate Junior Cert Results Safely

As part of its ongoing public awareness campaign on alcohol and legal or illegal highs; the HSE is encouraging parents of students receiving their Junior Certificate results on 15th September to discuss the dangers of underage drinking or legal or illegal drug use with them. 

Parents are the most important influence on their children and what parents say and do will have a major effect on young people’s relationship with alcohol. Read more

Shane Filan signs for Sligo Rovers!

The bit o’red have always been well supported by Shane and the lads in Westlife and no doubt this particular league will see the supporters come out to see both Shane and support Rovers, who are now third in the premier league.
