Dr Jim McDaid sensationally resigns from Dail
Donegal North East Deputy Jim McDaid has sensationally resigned from the Dail.
This will mean a 2nd by election in the county of Donegal, where a seat in donegal south west has remained vacant for almost one and a half years. Or it could be the spring for a general election!
The former Fianna Fail Minister lost the FF whip in 2008, after abstaining in a vote against the introduction of a cervival cancer vaccination programme introduced by Health Minister Mary Harney.
He had also threatened to vote against the forthcoming budget, if threatened cuts at his local Letterkenny hospital were implemented.

Flow of farm payments to continue until year end – Scanlon
The schedule of direct farm payments such as Single Payment and Disadvantage Area Scheme will continue until year end despite claims to the contrary according to local T.D. Eamon Scanlon.
“Over 110,000 farmers around the country will benefit from these direct payments this year and over €671 million has been paid out in recent weeks.”
The Sligo/North Leitrim T.D. said: “In one week at the end of October alone over €500 million has been paid out in the Single Payment Scheme which means that about 90% of farmers who qualified have already received their advance payment.” Read more
Tribute paid to Inishowen Fishermen
Donegal Deputy Joe McHugh has paid tribute to the two Donegal fishermen involved in yesterday morning’s tragic accident in the sea near Glengad, Inishowen, Co. Donegal. The body of Edward Doherty, a 65 year old experienced crab and lobster fisherman, was found yesterday. The search for his nephew, Robert ‘Jackie’ McLaughlin, is on-going.
