Coleman continues impressive form with Everton

Seamus Coleman of Everton in action with David Carney of Blackpool yesterday.

As Seamie Coleman from Killybegs awaits his first Irish cap next Tuesday against Wales, which we all hope he will get in the inaugural Carling Nations Cup, he played his usual influential part in Everton’s 5-3 victory over Blackpool yesterday.

Of course, it was Coleman, on loan from David Moynes side last season to Blackpool, that helped them gain promotion to the Preniership.

The match of the day was former Republic of Ireland player Chris Hughton’s former team Newcastle, who came back from an amazing 4-0 down against Arsenal at St. James Gate to earn a 4-4 draw.

The Magpies actually had the ball in the net a fifth time, but the perfectly legitimate goal was ruled offside by the referee.

Donegal late surge earns draw with Sligo

Donegal 2-11
Sligo 1-14

Eight points down at one stage and down to 14 men, it looked like the writing was on the wall for Donegal. But a last minute point from St. Naul’s Stephen Griffin gave the depleted Tirconaill team a tough earned but deserved draw with Sligo, newly promoted from Division three  last season.

Kevin Mulhern was shown red for an off-the-ball incident in the first half, before Adrian Marren kicked the visitors into an 0-8 to 0-6 half time lead.

When David Kelly found the net to give Sligo a 1-11 to 0-06 lead the points looked safe, but goals from a Michael Murphy penalty and Neil McGee helped close the gap for Donegal. With time almost up big Stephen Griffin proved the hero hitting the crucial point to level the tie.
