Why was Sligo passed over for funding?
Sligo North Leitrim Senator Susan O’Keeffe has called on the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport to clarify why Sligo and the N4 in particular was not included in the new allocation of €100 million to maintain roads and improve safety.
“The stretch of the N4 from Collooney to Castlebaldwin has been labelled as possibly the most dangerous road in Ireland by the County Coroner. The road is unique in having 29 crosses on the roadside to remind drivers of the lives lost on the road in a short number of years”. Read more

Donegal’s McEniff denies he is Louth selector
Former Donegal football manager Brian McEniff will become a Louth selector for 2012 or so we thought. He had a number of spells as Donegal manager the last of which saw him bringing them to the All Ireland semi final of 2003.
However, after the news was bandied all over the papers earlier this week, he told his local Donegal Democrat that this was not the case and that he was simply continuing on, as an advisor. So how did everyone get it so wrong?
He was the manager of the Donegal team that won the 1992 All Ireland senior final against Dublin.
He previously was involved in an advisory capacity to Louth Manager Peter Fitzpatrick over the past two years. McEniff was also the manager of the Ulster team for many Railway Cup victories.

Rehn is right: Irish economy needs breathing space, says Harkin
Sligo based Independent MEP Marian Harkin has challenged EU Economic Affairs Commissioner Olli Rehn to provide concrete assurances that restructuring economies such as Ireland’s are given adequate breathing space in the coming years.
Speaking at a European Parliament conference on solutions to the Euro crisis, Harkin openly challenged Commissioner Rehn’s assertion that the austerity measures currently imposed on Ireland “were paying off”.
”How exactly are they paying off,” asked the Ireland North & West MEP, “when Ireland’s GNP has decreased for the last 4 years; when unemployment remains sky-high; when Irish debt has yet to peak and exports remain fragile?” Read more
