Key services under threat at Letterkenny Hospital as budget is cut
Key services at Letterkenny Hospital are under threat as a result of further budget cuts revealed in the HSE West Service Plan, according to Donegal North East TD Charlie McConalogue.
The Fianna Fáil Deputy has said he is gravely concerned about the impact on patients of the cuts to Donegal health service this year. “Letterkenny General Hospital spent approximately €105 million in 2011.
This was an n €8 million overspend on their allocated budget,” said Deputy McConalogue. Read more

The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Leo Varadkar TD has welcomed the very successful visit to Ireland by the Vice-President of China, Xi Jinping, which concluded today (Monday).

Psychiatric unit at St Joseph’s Ballina to close
The HSE has confirmed plans to close the psychiatric unit at St Joseph’s District Hospital in Ballina this year, according to local Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary.
Deputy Calleary has described it as a ‘dark day’ for mental health services in north Mayo. “These damaging cuts were confirmed in the HSE West Service Plan published on Friday. Read more
Mixed Fortunes for Letterkenny Boxers
Letterkenny boxers had mixed fortunes over the last two weekends. On Sunday 12 February the Club had five boxers entered in the North West Zones, for 14, 15 and 16 years old in the Letterkenny Boxing Gym.
First in action was Aaron Doherty who took on Gerard Callaghan of Clonmany in the quarter finals of the Youth 1, 57kg Class. Aaron turned in a fine performance to claim victory over his opponent whom he lost twice to last season. Read more

Pricing of fuel in Northern Ireland – parliamentary debate
SDLP South Down MP Margaret Ritchie has supported calls for an Office of Fair Trading investigation into the transparent pricing of fuel in Northern Ireland and secured a Westminster Hall debate on the topic this week.
The UK Parliamentary debate, which takes place on Wednesday, will look at the cost of fuel duties in the North, which have rocketed in recent years. Read more

Rory Mc Caffrey opened Yeats account and a Shane Hayes own goal looked certain to settle matters for the Yeats men however a Keith Lynch goal put Coolera back in the frame and on the stroke of full time up popped Gary Finan to earn what seemed at one stage an unlikely share of the points. Court Appearance follows Letterkenny Assault
Two men in their 30s are due to appear at Letterkenny District Court at 10.30 am on the 20th of February charged in relation to an assault on a 41 year old man in the town on Friday the 17th.
The incident happened at Glenard Park, Letterkenny at about 11.30 pm and the man received serious head injuries in the incident. The injured man is being treated at Letterkenny General Hospital.
The two men in their 30s were arrested on the 18th of February and are detained at Letterkenny Garda Station
