Sligo’s St. Joseph’s Hospital, receives International Accreditation Award

St. Joseph’s Hospital in Sligo has been awarded Accreditation by the Joint Commission International, the largest and most prestigious accrediting agency of health care organisations in the world. Mark Towey, Director of Operations at St. Joseph’s Hospital, said: “We are delighted with the JCI Accreditation Award. Accreditation means St. Joseph’s Hospital is now one of a select group of hospitals worldwide to have achieved this distinction. It’s a true endorsement of our staff and the medical team who worked together to achieve this international award”.

Mr. Towey continued: “Our commitment to quality has been recognised and our governance systems have been measured and assessed to meeting international, professional, best-practice standards.

“St. Joseph’s Hospital provides a unique consultant-led, patient-centred service delivered by a highly qualified, professional clinical team. All our patients are assessed and treated by the same Consultant throughout their care. Recent investments include an upgrade of our theatre facility incorporating an air-exchange unit, which changes the theatre air over 20 times every hour.”

St. Joseph’s Hospital offers a comprehensive range of planned, elective surgical and scope procedures under local or general anaesthetic. The Hospital deals with all the major private healthcare insurers and patients on public waiting lists can avail of the services of St. Joseph’s Hospital at no cost to the patient, through the National Treatment Purchase Fund. St. Joseph’s Hospital has provided private hospital services in the North West including Sligo, Donegal, Leitrim, Cavan, Mayo and Roscommon for over 50 years.

The hospital was acquired by Mount Carmel Medical Group in 2004 who undertook a significant investment programme. The hospital acquired JCI accreditation in October 2009.
