The Sinn Fein councillor for the Letterkenny area, Mick Quinn today spoke of concerns raised with him by people from Milford Town regarding safety issues in the town.

Quinn said :” Three particular concerns were raised with me and they were the lack of a footpath from the Grey Rock Housing Estate into the town ,the narrowing of the road from Lidl in the direction of  The Milford Inn and the road from Bunlin to the Mulroy college.”

Quinn Continued : “ Many people, including children walk from the Grey Rock into town on a regular basis and this route is potentially hazardous as the road itself is relatively narrow and there is a deep fall from both margins. Whilst I have been advised that this is yet another issue of non-compliance with Planning Permission the safety of those using this road is paramount and something needs to be done urgently to alleviate the dangers.

The main road from Lidl towards The Milford Inn narrows very suddenly and where it narrows there is a deep drop off the road and the only protection for motorists is a flimsy wooden barrier.

There is no sign on the Bunlin side of Mulroy College that there is a school ahead and a number of families have concerns over the fact that there are no speed ramps on the road outside the College.”

Quuinn concluded by saying : “I have written to the roads engineer seeking that the necessary funding be made available to address these very genuine concerns.”
