Tánaiste welcomes successful talks to save Donegal jobs

Tanaiste Mary Coughlan
The Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Mary
Coughlan, TD, has today welcomed news that 91 jobs are to be saved at
Donegal Meats in Carrigans.
The company has reversed its decision to close at then end of April. The
cessation in production was to result in operations being transferred to a
sister plant in the North of Ireland.
However, SIPTU has made a proposal to the company which has been accepted
meaning the future of the 91 jobs has been secured.
“I whole-heartedly compliment the company and the union as well as a number
of local elected representatives who played key roles in brokering a deal
which means that these jobs can be retained,” stated the Tánaiste.
Furthermore, there was further positive news regarding jobs at Medisize
Ireland Limited in Letterkenny with the company postponing plans to cut 25 jobs as a result of new orders received.
