All-Ireland Intermediate Club Football champions Lisnaskea Emmetts added the Finbarr McVey Ulster Intermediate Sevens title to their arsenal thanks to a 3-6 to 2-7 final win over Urney of Tyrone at the Ogra Colmcille GAA Club in Drummullan, Derry on Saturday.
The Fermanagh outfit required a late goal from Erne County star Niall McElroy to take silverware, after Urney had held the lead for most of the second half.
Goals from McElroy and Daniel Kille gave Emmetts a 2-3 to 1-3 interval lead, with Jonathan Lafferty netting Urney’s first half goal.
The Tyrone-Donegal border side bounced back on the restart with a Mark Devine goal pushing them into a 2-5 to 2-4 lead two and a half minutes into the second half.
Urney looked on course for silverware when Ruairi Lynch claimed his second point of the half to open up a two-point advantage, but Lisnaskea failed to give up.
McElroy was dangerous throughout this competition, and he bagged his seventh goal of the tournament with a minute of normal time remaining to steal victory.
After the game Brian Og Maguire accepted the Finbarr McVey Memorial Cup from members of the McVey family.
Earlier, Lisnaskea lost just one game on the way to the title, having lost to host club Ogra Colmcille by 2-7 to 2-4 in the final game in Group A.
Tullylish topped Group A on scoring difference following wins over Ogra Colmcille (6-2 to 0-2) and Kildress of Tyrone (2-6 to 1-1).
Urney topped Group B after a trio of victories, with Rasharkin (2-4 to 1-2), Lisnaskea Emmetts 2 (9-6 to 1-1) and Foreglen (6-3 to 3-2) the vanquished.
Second half goals from Niall McElroy and Niall Oates helped Lisnaskea to a 5-11 to 3-8 semi-final win over Antrim side Rasharkin.
Goals were also vital for Urney in their 2-7 to 0-5 win over Tullylish of Down, with Jonathan and Gary Lafferty netting a goal each in the first-half of the other semi-final. ————-RESULTS: Finbarr McVey Ulster Intermediate Football 7′s TournamentFINAL – Lisnaskea Emmetts (1) 3-6 Urney 2-7.
