Quinn Fermanagh arson attacks condemned

Sinn Féin MLA for Fermanagh & South Tyrone Phil Flanagan and Erne West Councillor Barry Doherty have reacted angrily to an overnight arson attack on property belonging to the Quinn Group.

Mr Flanagan said: “Over the past few months, there have been repeated acts of vandalism on things belonging to or serving the Quinn Group; this is a severe escalation of that with vans, a lorry, a loading shovel and a tarmac spreader being set on fire overnight.

“This is yet another disgraceful action, carried out by people no better than petty vandals; whatever cause these people think they are progressing, they are completely misguided.
“Those responsible need to go away and take a good, hard look at themselves.
“The only purpose that these people are serving is adding to the continuing threat over the existing jobs within the Quinn Group and within the wider local community.
“There needs to be a concerted effort to ensure that all of the remaining jobs are protected in this area; as political representatives, we have been working to that end for a long time, but this type of action completely undermines that work.”
Barry Doherty said:
“There is widespread anger and frustration in the local area at the continued efforts to disrupt the Quinn Group; I would call on whoever is carrying out these despicable and pointless acts to stop them and stop them immediately.
“There is no support within the local community for this type of behaviour; people may not be fully supportive of the way in which Sean Quinn was removed from this business, but actions such as this do nothing only put the remaining jobs at risk.”
