Airtricity Premier League
Sligo Rovers 5
Bray Wanderers 1
Game played at the Showgrounds, Sligo
Sligo Rovers trounced bottom of the league Bray Wanderers 5-1 last night at The Showgrounds, having led 4-0 at the interval.
Padraig Amond has notched up 12 goals for the season. There were also first goals for John Russell and the recently signed Joseph Ndo.
Rovers had scored 12 goals in their last two home games, admittedly against teams at the lower end of the league and within nine minutes they were at it again when Amond nipped in to clinch the vital first goal.
They doubled their lead 13 minutes later, when a perfect pass released Eoin Doyle, who lifted the ball over Brian Kane and into the net.
But their was no respite for the travelling Bray team and five minutes before the interval with John Russell masterminding a superb individual goal having taken the ball all the way from midfield before his left foot shot left the Bray net minder hapless once again.
It was all over at this stage and a 2nd Amond strike just before the interval sent the home fans delirious.
And it was more of the same as the second half began. Rovers cut the Bray defence open and Joseph Ndo struck from close range.
John Mulroy got a very late consolation goal for Bray in the final minute, to give some respect to the scoreline for the visitors, who will want to forget their trip to the north west.
