Sligo Senator Susan O’Keeffe has welcomed the announcement by Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport that a nationwide audit of speed limits is to be implemented. The Department willconduct the nationwide audit in conjunction with the National Roads Authority and local authorities.
“We all know of roads right across Sligo and Leitrim where the speed limits are too high and in certain cases too low. There are many rural roads in the North West where the current speed limit is as high as 80km.
The review by the Department must ensure that all roads have a safe sensible speed limit. This will continue the good work of the past 12 months which has seen deaths on our roads fall from 212 to 186 nationally.”
“If there are any roads in your area where you feel that the speed limit in inappropriately high or inadequately low please contact your local authority or contact me directly. All this information will feed into the review making our roads safer and continue to reduce deaths and injuries on our roads.”
