Aodh Ruadh’s prospects of promotion in 2013 drifted into the realms of mathematical theory with a 1-15 to 1-8 loss away to Downings last Friday evening.
It was vital that Ballyshannon get a win to prevent the top three from cutting loose, but defeat means that promotion is now a effectively matter for Downings, Saint Naul’s and Fanad Gaels to decide among themselves. Aodh Ruadh began the game well, as they have tended to do all season and were unlucky not to be leading by more than two points at half time, 0-6 to 1-5. David Dolan and Peter Boyle got the opening three scores of the game.
The sides exchanged further scores before David McGurrin’s dropping shot which deceived the keeper and dropped under the crossbar for the first goal of the game and give the Ernesiders a four point lead. Downings were level within ten minutes of the break and with only Peter Boyle, Diarmaid McInerney and Anthony Coughlan registering points in the second half Aodh Ruadh were never going to be coming away with the points. We have team sheets and pictures from Cathal Maguire up on aodhruadh.org.

McBrearty was bitten – GAA Director General
The director general of the GAA has said it’s a matter of record that Donegal footballer Paddy McBrearty was bitten during the controversial league match against Dublin in April.
Paraic Duffy said it was damaging for the GAA that a player was bitten and nobody was held to account for it.
Speaking at the launch of the 2013 championships Duffy said the comments of GAA president Liam O’Neill on the matter, which were criticised by McGuinness, were “absolutely fair”.
The Donegal manager was responding to O’Neill’s disappointment at the failure of all the evidence on the case not being presented to the Central Hearings Committee meeting
As a result a Dublin player was cleared of a three-game suspension proposed by the Central Competition Controls Committee CCCC who investigated the allegation. Read more

McGuinness refutes GAA President comments over biting allegation
Donegal GAA manager Jim McGuinness has lambasted GAA President Liam O’Neill over his comments on the biting allegation on Paddy McBrearty, his 18 year old protege.
Dublin defender Kevin O’Brien had a three-match ban proposed by the Central Competitions Controls Committee (CCCC) after it was alleged that he had bitten McBrearty late in the first half in their NFL match at Ballybofey.
When The Donegal player didn’t attend a meeting with the Central Hearings Committee (CHC), after O’Brien appeal against the ban, the case was thrown out.
An angry GAA President O’Neill commenting after the CHC meeting said: “We had no evidence provided on the game. People who had evidence didn’t show and that’s it.”
McGuinness has now replied:”The president of the GAA is a school teacher and should know someone of that age is not fully developed and fully mature and doesn’t want to get into a court room like situation.
