Dissident Republican arrests in Offaly

As part of an ongoing operation into the activities of Dissident Republicans Gardai have arrested 4 people outside Tullamore, Co. Offaly.

Members from the Special Detective Unit, supported by other National Units, arrested three males (20’s and 30’s) and one female (20’s) at Rahan, Co. Offaly last night the 27th November, 2012.

The four are currently detained at Tullamore (male and female) and Mullingar ( two males) Garda Stations under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939.

Two firearms were also recovered at the scene.

Fatal road traffic collision Mallow

Gardai are investigating  a fatal collision which occurred on the N72, at Gearanskagh, Mallow, Co Cork, last night on the 13th of November 2011.
At approximately 2010 hours a 22 year old female was fatally injured when the motor car she was driving collided with a second car. The occupants of the second car, a female aged 51 years and three children, were taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital.
The road remains closed pending a technical examination and diversions are in place.

Dissident Republican activity in Kildare – Arrests

Gardai investigating the activities of dissident republicans this morning (12/1/2011) arrested two men in the Monasterevin area of Co. Kildare, they have confiormed in the last hour.
Both men, aged in their 50s and 20s, are currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939 at Naas Garda Station.
This morning’s operation involved members from the Special Detective Unit, Emergency Response Unit supported by local Gardai.
The scene has been sealed off and a technical examination of the area is ongoing.

Garda safety message on roads

Gardai are advising members of the public to continue to exercise extreme caution on the roads. Although some of the snow may be thawing in places ice and black ice can still be present and be hazardous to motorists.

Public transport should be used where possible. Motorists are asked not to make unnecessary journeys. Drivers should be conscious of the safety of pedestrians. Pedestrians should avoid walking on the road and wear hi-vis jackets. Read more

Firearms & ammunituion seized

Gardaí from Sundrive Road in Dublin have seized firearms, ammunition and a small quantity of drugs following an intelligence led operation by uniformed Gardaí backed up by local detectives.

 
A house was searched on Wednesday 18th August 2010 in the Crumlin area and during the course of the search five (5) firearms; a quantity of ammunition, and a small amount of drugs (Cannabis Resin) was seized.
A 47 year old man was arrested and detained at Sundrive Road Garda Station under Section 30 Offences against the State Act 1939. This man was subsequently charged in relation to this incident on Friday 20th August  and is expected to appear before Dublin District Court (CJJ)on the September 10th 2010.

Limerick man died of shotgun wounds

Gardaí have identified the body discovered on the 31st May 2010 as Lee Slattery (aged 24), who had been  missing from the  Ballynanty area of Limerick since the 27th May 2010.
The body was discovered in the Delmege House area. This is an old estate near Moyross. The post-mortem on the body has been completed,  and the results have been supplied to the investigation team. They show that Lee died as a result of gunshot wounds.

Gardaí in Limerick are anxious to trace the final movements of Lee, and as such are appealing to members of the public to contact them with any information they may have. Read more

Gardai at Henry St. are investigating the circumstances of a shooting incident which occurred last evening at St John’s Square, Limerick.

At approximately 9.30pm a man aged in his 20s was seriously injured when he sustained gunshot wounds while sitting in a car. He was taken to Mid Western Regional Hospital where condition is described as critical. Read more

Grim discovery of two rocket launchers

A follow up opeartion by garda this morning saw the harrowing discovery of two rocket launchers at Clane in County Kildare.

In the course of Wednesdays garda arrests and subsequent court appearance of 4 males charged contrary to Section 72(1) (a) of the Criminal Justice Act 1996 as amended a kilo of cocaine was discovered, with an estimated street value of €70,000. Read more

Garda warning over counterfeit €100 notes in circulation

Gardai wish to advice members of the public and shop owners, to be on the look out for counterfeit €100 notes.
Gardai are aware that since March 2010 a number of counterfeit €100 notes have been in circulation and presented in retail outlets across the country.
The trend is to purchase a small item with one €100 note and receive approximately €90 in change from the retail outlet.

Road death toll in Donegal now stands at three this weekemd

Gardaí in Buncrana are investigating a fatal two vehicle road traffic collision which occurred on the Main Letterkenny to Derry Road at approximately 10.10am this morning 30/1/2010.

It brings to three the number of Donegal road daeths this weekened.

The collision occurred at the junction of Slab Rd, Burt, on the Main Letterkenny to Derry Road at approximately 10.10am this morning 30/1/2010. Two males(55&24yrs) from one car were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and sole occupant of the second car was taken to Letterkenny Hospital where she(59yrs)  is described as being stable.

The road is currently closed for a Forensic Collision examination, and is due to be re-opened between 4 and 5pm this evening the 30th Jan.Diversions are in place.
