Letterkenny Hospital visiting ban update

20121212-202523.jpg

Due to the presence of the Winter Vomiting Bug, no visitors will be allowed to visit the hospital at this time to help curtail the spread of infection.

There will be allowances made for the maternity department where fathers will be allowed to visit.

In cases where a patient is critically ill, a nominated next of kin should ring the ward in advance to make arrangements to visit.

All appropriate infection control measures are being taken to deal with the situation at the hospital at the moment and the ban on visiting will remain in place until the wards are free from the outbreak. We are appealing to the public to adhere strictly to the ban on visiting.

Letterkenny General Hospital wishes to thank patients and the public for their cooperation and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

There is an increased incidence of diarrhoea or vomiting on Surgical 1 and Medical 3 Wards. To help curtail the spread of this, Letterkenny General Hospital is curtailing visiting in these two wards from today; the wards affected are Medical 3 and Surgical 1.

We also ask people not to come to visit patients at any time if you currently have diarrhoea or vomiting or if you had diarrhoea or vomiting in the last two days or if anyone in your household had diarrhoea or vomiting in the last two days. In addition we ask that you please do not bring children to visit the hospital unless absolutely necessary.

Donegal woman’s settlement over Letterkenny birth

Letterkenny General Hospital

A young Donegal woman with cerebral palsy has been awarded €2.5 million in settlement of a High Court action over alleged negligence surrounding her birth at Letterkenny General Hospital in the eighties.

The settlement offer was made without admission of liability after a six-day hearing.

Yesterday, Mr Justice John Quirke approved the settlement for Lauren Tinney (23), Lisowen Avenue, Buncrana, Co Donegal, who had sued the Health Service Executive through her mother Eleanor. The HSE denied the claims.

Ms Tinney is severely disabled, confined to a wheelchair, has little use of her left hand and requires a great deal of care.

The court previously heard that her mother Eleanor Tinney had been  admitted to the hospital on May 23rd, 1988, when she was 39 weeks and four days pregnant. Lauren was born on May 31st of that year.

What will be done to save services at Letterkenny Hospital?

Letterkenny General Hospital

Donegal Action for Cancer Care are calling on Donegal Oireachtas Members to now publicly state what they are prepared to do to protect services at Letterkenny General Hospital.
It is two weeks since DACC highlighted their concerns regarding the possible downgrading of the hospital by the constant chipping away at services and budget shortfalls.
We were accused by some at the time of scare mongering, but since that we have had the General Manager at the hospital tell the media & people the situation and also Prof John Crown agree with DACC that cancer services are not secure when other services are impacted on. DACC believe that an audit of A& E is currently underway at LGH  giving cause for fears that the unit will have it’s opening hours reduced. Read more
